ella+elliot™ opened its doors in November 2006 in Toronto as a new store concept for parents-to-be looking for modern, yet functional and sustainable nursery furniture that would integrate with their lifestyle. Designed by leading design firm 3rd Uncle, and located in the Queen Street West area of Toronto, ella+elliot™ is a leader in bringing new designs to the city. The store has been rated best baby store in the city on several occasions, and appears regularly in television, print and online media.

ella+elliot™ strives to provide modern design’s simple lines along with functionality and sustainability to all objects affecting the first few years of a child, and beyond. ella+elliot™ has become a one-stop-shop experience, allowing those who believe that less is more to find all they need for a baby in an edited environment.

The husband-and-wive founders of ella+elliot™, respectively from France and Canada, were inspired to create the concept store by their then-newborn child and their appreciation for both mid-20th Century design and French antiques. Their search for nursery furniture in Canada six years ago was a challenge, especially after living in Amsterdam for two years, as the designs they fell in love with in Europe were simply not available for Canadians. Both founders credit their appreciation for modern design to their travels to Africa – being exposed to primitive art’s simple lines - and to being exposed to their neighbour’s house in the French Alps, designed by Charlotte Perriand. Thanks to the creation of ella+elliot™, this aesthetic became newly available for Canadian parents and their children to enjoy.

In three years, ella+elliot™ has grown to offer the largest selection of modern design for babies in Canada and now includes modern solutions for big kids, as well as professional design services.

Suzanne O’Leary and Christian Imler, the minds behind ella+elliot™, are bringing modern design’s simple lines, along with functionality and sustainability, to all objects affecting the first few years of the life of a child. They believe that less is more: fewer products - more functions, more natural and sustainable materials.

"Modern design’s simple and pure aesthetics are inherently childlike and therefore a natural fit for a youngster", says Suzanne. They also have a positive effect on a child’s relationship with their environment. Although the notion of sustainability is on everyone’s lips today, it has been part of Suzanne’s and Christian’s life for a long time. Their choice of three criteria on which the selection of products is based seems cliché today, but it wasn’t 3 years ago.

These 3 criteria are: modern design – functionality – sustainability.
